If you’re planning your wedding, chances are good that you want to make it different – something beyond just the ordinary church wedding and fancy dinner. A wedding is a celebration of love, but also of the couple themselves – and their unique personalities and style. But while everyone wants to personalize their wedding in some way, most of us don’t have a huge budget to do it with. Showing up in a horse-drawn coach might be memorable, but there are less pricey ways to put your own spin on the typical wedding ceremony.
Here are just a few of the ways you can add a personal touch to your wedding without breaking the bank.
1. Customize. Thanks to the decreased costs of printing and manufacturing, almost any aspect of a wedding can be custom-designed nowadays, without overspending. This doesn’t just apply to wedding invitations, but to other accessories like personalized wedding napkins, custom wine bottle labels and other small touches. Having your own image, design or chosen phrase on the wedding napkins might seem like a small touch, but it’s the kind of thing that stands out and gets people talking, and turns ordinary napkins into keepsakes in their own right.
2. Your own website. More and more couples are opting to create a web site for their wedding. This has many advantages, from keeping all the crucial info – directions, pictures, reminders and gift registry – in one place, to making the months leading up to your wedding more engaging for relatives and friends. But it also offers another opportunity for personalization, from the design of the page to finding creative and fun ways to update friends in the week before the wedding: for example, posting a picture a day snapped by the couple or best man, and asking guests to suggest songs to act as a soundtrack for the image.
3. Share the spotlight. When planning your wedding and reception it’s easy to fall into making it all about you – but that just creates more balls in the air on the big day. Outsource crucial wedding moments to relatives and friends who are have something of their own to share. For example, if you have a brother who’s a musician ask him to play a song during the reception. Ask an aunt or uncle to share the story of your parents’ wedding. Give other people a chance to step up and be active, and your wedding will be even more engaging.
So, are you ready to run off and order those personalized wedding napkins – and book Aunt Sally’s accordion act for the reception? How else can you add a personal touch to a wedding?
